# Creating your account

Create a Runtype account to build and run Flows, Agents, and Products.

## Before you begin

You need an email address or a supported sign-in account. You don't need a model provider API key: Runtype [platform keys](/user-guide/getting-started/platform-keys-vs-byok) let you run models right away.

## Create an account

To create your account, follow these steps:

1. Open the [Runtype sign-up page](https://use.runtype.com/sign-up).
2. Choose a sign-up method.
3. If the sign-up flow asks you to verify your email address, open the verification email and follow its instructions. Runtype shows **Setting up your workspace…** while it creates your workspace, and then the **Dashboard** opens.

If a teammate invited you to their organization, accept the invitation from the email. After you sign in, you can move between your workspace and that organization. To switch, click your account menu at the bottom of the sidebar, and then click **Switch organization**. For details, see [What are Organizations?](/user-guide/settings/what-are-organizations).

### Create an account from the CLI

If you work in a terminal, run `runtype auth signup`. The command opens the Runtype sign-in page in your browser, where you can create an account. After you finish, the CLI is signed in to that account.

To create an account without a browser, run `runtype auth register --email <email>`, and then run `runtype auth verify <code>` with the code from the email. Until you verify the email address, the account is temporary, with limited models and quota. For details, see [Authentication](/developer-guides/getting-started/authentication#agent-self-registration-anonymous-start).

## Confirm access

Your account is ready when the **Dashboard** opens. Until something runs, the **Production health** area shows **Nothing has run yet**, with **Run an agent**, **Run a flow**, and **Set up evals** buttons. To connect the Runtype MCP server to your editor or assistant, click **Connect your assistant** in the page header. For a tour of the page, see [What is the Dashboard?](/user-guide/dashboard/what-is-the-dashboard).

If you signed up from a promotional link, a **Welcome to Runtype** dialog offers credit. To add the credit to your account, click the **Redeem** button, which shows the credit amount. To close the dialog, click **Maybe later**.

## Credit and plans

New accounts start on the free Launch plan with \$5 of platform-key credit. Runtype deducts platform-key model usage from this prepaid credit. To check your balance, open **Settings > Billing**. For plan details, see [Billing and plans](/user-guide/settings/billing-and-plans).

Platform keys cover models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. For the full list, see [Available AI models](/user-guide/settings/available-ai-models). To use your own provider keys instead, see [Connecting AI model providers](/user-guide/integrations/connecting-ai-model-providers).

## Troubleshooting

### The verification email doesn't arrive

Check your spam folder and wait a few minutes. For more steps, including an expired verification link, see [Authentication issues](/user-guide/troubleshooting-faq/authentication-issues#email-verification).

### Workspace setup fails

If setup fails, Runtype shows **Something went wrong** instead of the **Dashboard**. Click **Try again**. If you were invited to an organization, click **Accept an invite** or **Pick a workspace** to continue into that organization instead.

For other sign-in problems, see [Authentication issues](/user-guide/troubleshooting-faq/authentication-issues).
