# Massive (web rendering)

Use Massive to fetch hard-to-retrieve web pages. Massive is available as a built-in tool for Agents and as a fetch method on the **Fetch URL** step in a Flow, alongside Firecrawl.

## What is Massive?

Massive Web Render fetches a page by rendering its JavaScript, solving CAPTCHAs, and retrying through a residential network. Use it for pages that block or challenge data center traffic. Massive returns LLM-optimized Markdown, rendered HTML, or raw HTML, and it supports country-based geotargeting.

Use Massive for the following cases:

* **Hard-to-reach pages:** Fetch sites that block, rate-limit, or challenge data center traffic.
* **Localized content:** Fetch pages as seen from a specific country.
* **Dynamic pages:** Capture content that appears only after JavaScript runs.

## Set up Massive

Massive Web Render is available only when it is enabled for your account. When it is enabled, you can use it with a Runtype platform key without adding your own API key. If you use your own Massive account, follow these steps:

1. Sign up at [Massive](https://www.joinmassive.com).
2. Copy your API key from the Massive dashboard.
3. In Runtype, click **Settings > Integrations**.
4. In the **Web Scraping** section, find **Massive**.
5. In the **Massive API Key** field, paste your API key.
6. Click **Save Key**.

## Use Massive as a tool

Enable the **Massive Web Render** built-in tool when you configure an Agent. The Agent uses the tool to fetch pages that resist ordinary HTTP requests.

The Agent calls the tool with the following parameters:

* `url` (required): The full URL of the page.
* `format`: The output format, either `markdown` (default), `rendered` (HTML after JavaScript runs), or `raw` (HTML before JavaScript runs).
* `country`: A two-letter ISO country code, such as `us`. If omitted, Massive picks a random country.
* `delay`: Extra wait time, from 0.1 to 10 seconds, before Massive captures the content of a slow-loading page.

## Use Massive in a Flow

On the **Fetch URL** step, set the fetch method to **Massive (Web Render)**. The step routes the request through Massive instead of a raw HTTP fetch. You can configure the output format, geotargeting, delay, and cache expiration.

## Choose between Massive and Firecrawl

Both services fetch pages that block ordinary requests. Firecrawl adds structured extraction options, including JSON extraction, page actions, and main-content stripping. Massive focuses on difficult sites with residential geotargeting and CAPTCHA solving. If one service cannot retrieve a page, try the other.
